Hivemind Times Issue #91

Graydon goes fishing and lives to tell about it

Welcome To The Hivemind Times!

Hello my dear associates. I have been absent from HQ this week but I yearn to return to the arena of comedy.

The location I am writing to you from is the most pristine. I am sitting on the pontoon boat that has been my fishing boat for the past week. Some of those tales will come later.

I hope everyone enjoyed Tech Bracket on Unlimited, as well as the Big Lebowski for How Did It Age (thanks for voting that).

This newsletter will have a special playlist from my literal cousin who himself is a talented musician (Cousin Dave on Spotify) and maybe some more fun shit from the gang. I hope everyone has been outside when they can. It sure is nice out these days.

As always, have a safe and glorious weekend.

TRAVEL

Brief review of my week in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan fishing with friends

Lodging in tiny bug filled cabins full of smoked fish whiskey and the occasional fart.

Over 10 hrs a day were logged on the water, an inland lake called Millecoquins. I have been here several times before and I think in total I had caught around 5-8 fish total.

Well this week was different.

Chalk it up to maturity, lures, water temp, whatever the fuck it was, we fucking killed it pillaging the lake of its best fish harvest every single day. No one got skunked and we caught multiple fish a day. For anyone who has been on a trip intended on achieving something the feeling of actually doing it time and time again is just irreplaceable and captivating.

I will attach some photos but fish were caught in all types of ways, in shallow weed beds, on top water amongst the lily pads, in rocky creeks on fly rods, trolling the deep waters with crank baits (blue!).

Fun was had and my heart is full, I know this isn鈥檛 the usual stuff anyone cares to read about but damnit its fun, go out and fish.

POEM OF THE WEEK

James A. Tweedie (1951-)

Deschutes River Reverie

The river, swift and shallow, roils its way
Beneath the outstretched arms of old-growth pines,
Past bank-side willows diamond-dewed with spray,
And hillside ferns and thimbleberry vines.

A fallen cedar, once a forest lord,
Contributes to the nascent euphony
As broken branches add a vocal chord
To water-music鈥檚 choral symphony.

Behind the cedar lies a quiet spot
Where wrist-flicked Pregnant Adams gently lands.
With flash and tug, a German Brown is caught
And gently held in two well-moistened hands.

The barbless hook removed, the trout set free,
An Upper Deschutes River reverie.
