GRANTS ALBUM RECS

This is Grant. Sorry that I’ve been MIA the last few months, my new single Paper Planes came out and it's been overperforming my initial expectations.

I have been listening to a lot of great new music (2026 tunes have been yup yup yup) so I figured why not overcomplicate things and keep it simple, by the books, if you will. Please. Thank you.

First on the list is by far my most listened album so far this year.

That’ll be freaking Art School Girlfriend’s “Lean In”. The terminology around the office while trying to describe this album has been “Boards of Canada made an RnB album”.

FAV TRACKS: Doing Laps, The Field, The Peaks, Save Something

WARNING! This next album is also one I’ve also been listening to and loving.

Marathon by Maria BC is super void and dissociative and…. Magic pulled out of a rabbit? Or is that the other way… there’s a hat involved somewhere. Listen to this shit when you playin’ Plants vs. Zombies bruh.

FAV TRACKS: Marathon (title track), Night & Day, Rare, Sabotage

Nice job reading, here’s some more you could do.

The third album I’ll talk about is this one: “Ambiguous Desire” by Arlo Parks. Been following Arlo since 2020 after the song “Black Dog” came out. This album had a few misses for me but the songs that I like I LOVE.

FAV TRACKS: Beams, South Seconds, 2SIDED, Senses Ft. Sampha

That’s all folks!

Just kidding, here’s just a couple songs i’ve also been listening to: Neverrr Everrr & Swimming by villagerrr, SAME SHIT by Isaiah Rashad, I Want It All by Ullah, Everyone Around Me Dancing by Gia Margaret (very excited for this album), Uneven by Choker, What’s Right? by Ratboys.

okay goodbye ily

SPORTS

(The editor did this)

The Cavaliers have appeared to be the second most dominant team in these NBA playoffs. What I like to see is that the ceiling seems to not yet have appeared for this team. They came into the playoffs having the least amount of continuity out of any playoff team and watching them gel and get better together live has been a joy.

My fears are now that we will once again coast through the first round to meet a much feistier opponent in RD 2 and get our shit kicked.

But call me crazy, James Harden has added some magic and determination to this squad and has taken a hefty load of the back of Donovan Mitchell while elevating the game of Mobley and Allen significantly, not to mention chipping in 5 fucking steals last game.

I’m excited and optimistic as you all should be as well because I expect nothing but your unbridled support throughout this journey (besides our loyal editor who is in Toronto lol).

Godspeed - go Cavs.

POEM OF THE WEEK

Paul Verlaine (1844-1896)

OFT DO I DREAM

Oft do I dream this strange and penetrating dream:
An unknown woman, whom I love, who loves me well,
Who does not every time quite change, nor yet quite dwell
The same,--and loves me well, and knows me as I am.

For she knows me! My heart, clear as a crystal beam
To her alone, ceases to be inscrutable
To her alone, and she alone knows to dispel
My grief, cooling my brow with her tears' gentle stream.

Is she of favor dark or fair?--I do not know.
Her name? All I remember is that it doth flow
Softly, as do the names of them we loved and lost.

Her eyes are like the statues',--mild and grave and wide;
And for her voice she has as if it were the ghost
Of other voices,--well-loved voices that have died.

RECIPES

Ceviche!

Ingredients:

  • Shrimp (1/2 lb)

  • White fish such as red snapper, sea bass, halibut, grouper, flounder, or mahi-mahi (1/2 lb)

  • Freshly squeezed lime juice (1 cup, divided)

  • Freshly squeezed orange juice (1/4 cup, divided)

  • Roma tomatoes (2, seeds removed)

  • English cucumber (1, peeled and seeds removed)

  • Red onion (1/2)

  • Jalapeños (2, seeds removed if you don’t like spice)

  • Cilantro (1/3 bunch)

  • Lime zest (2 tsp)

  • Salt (1 tsp)

  • Pepper (1 tsp)

  • Garlic powder (1 tsp)

Instructions:

  1. Cut the shrimp and fish into 3/4 inch cubes and place in a non-reactive bowl (like glass or ceramic).

  2. Add 1/2 cup of the lime juice and 2 tablespoons of the orange juice. Gently fold to coat, then cover and refrigerate for 60 minutes, mixing every 15 minutes. Once the shrimp and fish are opaque on the outside and no longer translucent, drain the juices.

  3. Finely chop the tomatoes, cucumber, red onion, jalapeños, and cilantro. Add everything to the bowl along with the remaining lime juice and orange juice, lime zest, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Gently fold to combine.

  4. Serve with tortilla chips.

* You can substitute parsley for cilantro if you have the soap gene.

* For a firmer texture, marinate up to 2 hours.
