Hivemind Times Issue #83

Music, movies, more music, and salsa

Welcome To The Hivemind Times!

Hey there my ghouls and goblins we are back in full swing over here.

Been stoked about the card game restock this week, thank you to all who are getting their grimey hands on their own versions now. Hope everyone enjoyed ep 2 of the decade's music quiz and the return of the ghoul himself, Dignan.

This edition of the times is going to be very music heavy with a nice spring recipe. Grant might even pop in to say what up doe. I hope everyone is thawing and starting to feel that spring feeling.

Have a good weekend fools.

MOVIE REVIEW

I’ve see a couple new fucking flicks in the past week and I have minimal thoughts but thoughts none the less.

The Drama
Dir. Kristoffer Borgli
Ft. Robert Pattinson + Zendaya

Pretty awesome swing here. I think I did end up admiring the attempt more than the execution but Pattinson and Zendaya really are both so damn good. I especially credit them for wanting to make movies that are original social commentary and just overall interesting.

In a coming year where Zendaya will be in Spiderman and Dune, The Drama will I think live on and be mentioned as a part of this historic run she is on, Sam Levison can try all he wants but she will ascend to goat status here soon enough.

Alana Haim should probably stop getting roles in my honest opinion, I know she is supposed to be insufferable but there's just something in the way she does it that is unnatural and it pisses me off. She sucked in One Battle too imo.

Anyway, it's a good movie. Sean Fennessey said Robert Pattinson is on his lowkey Albert Brooks shit and I liked that.

How To Make A Killing
Dir. John Patton Ford
Ft. Glen Powell + Margaret Qualley

Another hot one-two punch here except in this Margaret plays an absolute money hungry monster. Man I am rooting so hard for Glen Powell for some reason and this wasn’t a complete disappointment so suck on that egg hater.

It's really a light hearted comeback tale of a guy tryna get his. The means of achieving this revenge is funny and naturally along the way some ladies fall for old cheekbones. Its message is classic: money and the pursuit of it beyond reason will inevitably lead to some dissatisfaction and I can get down with that. Tune in to see Gabe from The Office as a fake bohemian artist.

Check out our NBA playoff predictions video on Cheap Seats if you missed that.

I fucking love ball and the first round has already been electric. I acknowledge that I did go 1-3 on my play in picks but 2 of the games were decided by like 5 points total so blow me.

The Cavs on Saturday let's ride, I love watching the Canadians lose.

MOVIE REVIEW PT 2

Hello hivemind readers. Sorry for my absence. I am back. For a little.. Movie review time.

Requiem for a Dream

Starts off in Brooklyn or something. Brooklyn . Where I live. Yep.

Heroin and sad old lady gameshow movie or something. Death and losing an arm, shitty friends and more heroin. Brooklyn and sex. Brooklyn and love. Heroin..

The color in my life has faded. I stand alone facing a great opponent, one I’m certain I cannot beat. Every night, I lie in what used to be our bed. I die alone in my thoughts and when I wake, it feels like I’ve only just closed my eyes. Yet thirteen hours have passed.

I am cold and aching. I feel the weight of guilt crushing my soul, guilty of being alive. I am alone.

She left a few weeks ago and took everything with her but me. All that remains of her is the indent in the couch where we used to spend so much time together.

This empty room has become my jail.

In just a month I have turned into something ugly and afraid. Oh, this empty room, what have I lost?

The saddest kind of love is the kind never realized, the kind that exists only in dreams and quiet hopes. They say to love is to suffer. Now I suffer. I have loved but I am not brave enough to face this anymore, this hurt.

My friends laugh and mock the way I feel. They could never understand.

Idle I have become, waiting for something, anything to happen. I am in stasis. Static. Slowly drifting through this cold atmosphere.

This empty room.

So much joy used to fill this room.

This empty room.

What comes next? I’m uncertain.

I sit by my phone, waiting for her to say something like a starved dog waiting for it’s food. Desperation has taken hold of me.

Begging.

The sky is black in all my dreams. I have become the weak heart of this empty room.

This empty room.

LIVE SHOW

Well, I'm finally doing a show of my own creation, and it's somehow going to happen in just about a week.

Probably a month ago, I was thinking to myself: you know, there just aren't enough techno shows in Detroit. I feel like we could use some more of that. So I took it upon myself to scour far and wide for a venue that would let me do just about anything I wanted, and I mean anything.

I settled on an idea for an evolving series of shows under the pseudonym 100 Flowers (not related to the great thinker and leader Mao Zedong). I really wanted to create an inclusive and welcoming show platform where I could let my friends and I mix their original music into the soul of Detroit techno. There is so much music I have made that I want to play for people, but

doesn't quite have the right home and I think this will be a great place to showcase it. I also want to make a point to ensure that it is a safe space for every type of human.

This first set of this project, I am calling Blossom, simply because it's the beginning of something new, and I think it has a nice visual representation of what this could grow into.

The venue / set design is gonna be so cool. I built these LED tubes from a company in the US that cuts these weird diffusion plastic tubes, and I also borrowed Cronk's soldering iron to melt some really nice individually assignable LED strips into a WLED panel. I also installed this crazy sound-reactive software on it, so when I hook it up to my phone, it's gonna look like that one

camping trip we all went on and Tony brought that substance, we haven't been the same since. Also, I spent way too much time on Facebook Marketplace buying a bunch of Govee lights that sync up to my phone. I'm just gonna put that shit on red the whole time, and it's gonna look disrespectful. Oh yeah, I also bought this big-ass plant and made Tony help me move it into my apartment so I can put it behind the DJ booth at the show. I honestly have no idea how I'm gonna get it to the venue because it's so fucking heavy, and I hurt my back, and I really don't want to move it again. If anyone wants a cool tree after the show, let me know. Unrelated, I also made these really sick physical tickets to give to the first 50 people that come to the show.

The other DJ for this set is a talented musician that goes by Jonah Baseball. The vibe we are going for is: organic, sweaty, unruly, dystopian, revolutionary, ally swagged-out director's cut. And if anyone shows up and wants to play some songs off a USB, I'm also down for that.

If you feel you are prepared for this extravaganza, feel free to message Graydon Weaver the secret passphrase to get in: "Dictatorship of the Proletariat".

I made a little playlist if anyone wants a taste of what might be spun at this show. :)

I almost forgot I made this little website too that's pretty cool. You can draw on it kinda! Grab a ticket! (18+) :-))))

POEM OF THE WEEK

E.E. Cummings (1894-1962)

as freedom is a breakfastfood

as freedom is a breakfastfood
or truth can live with right and wrong
or molehills are from mountains made
—long enough and just so long
will being pay the rent of seem
and genius please the talentgang
and water most encourage flame

as hatracks into peachtrees grow
or hopes dance best on bald men’s hair
and every finger is a toe
and any courage is a fear
—long enough and just so long
will the impure think all things pure
and hornets wail by children stung

or as the seeing are the blind
and robins never welcome spring
nor flatfolk prove their world is round
nor dingsters die at break of dong
and common’s rare and millstones float
—long enough and just so long
tomorrow will not be too late

worms are the words but joy’s the voice
down shall go which and up come who
breasts will be breasts thighs will be thighs
deeds cannot dream what dreams can do
—time is a tree(this life one leaf)
but love is the sky and i am for you
just so long and long enough
