Hivemind Times Issue #8
Welcome To The Hivemind Times!
Heeeey everyone, we finally made it to number 8. Crazy week in the Hivemind office. Graydon’s off galavanting around Europe with nothing but a suitcase full of cash and curiosity between his ears. Grant’s doing some remote work at a music festival where he’ll be challenging Dua Lipa to a dance battle during her headlining set. Cronk is auditioning for America’s Got Talent in a few weeks so he’s in the lab preparing. Tony is currently 123 hours into a quest to break the record for longest Minecraft Let’s Play, and Riley is typing this.
Issue #8’s got some hitters. Graydon’s got a sexy fall white bean chicken chili recipe (loosely based on my mom’s famous recipe), Riley saw mk.gee and wrote a FANTASTIC live review of it, and also there’s other stuff.
Anyway, I hope you’re having a wonderful week. Get to reading.

I love cars and listening to music in them, here are some of my favorite car classics.

ALBUM RECS
It’s Friday and it’s time to mellow out. The hazy guitar riffs and soft vocals from Amelia Cry Til I Die will make you want to just stare up at the clouds as they pass by. Also, who doesn’t like a little harmonica in their life?

SPORTS
This is the best day of my life!!!
Arsenal see out PSG at the Emirates 2-0 in victory, delivering the French League leader their 1st loss of the new season.
That was one of THEE great modern Arsenal matches. Around the 20th minute Leonardo Troassard carries the ball from our own half, drives the PSG’s box, and clips in a beautiful little ball in the Havertz who goes in for a brave header and scores.
Around the end of the 1st half ANOTHER Arsenal set-piece goal, this time as a direct free kick from Saka. His delivery misses contact from any of his targets and finds its way into the back of the net.
My Thoughts:
This was by far Arsenal’s most professional performance of the season. You can really see the level of pragmatism Arteta approaches these high caliber matches with. I feel we would have done the same thing to City had we not gone down to 10 men (still sad about this).

LIVE SHOW REVIEW
I went to the mk.gee show
Wednesday was mk.gee night in Detroit and every indie boy, girl, and nonbinary person with a pulse packed into an oversold St. Andrews Hall to hear Pitchfork's new it-boy. And for as cynical as I've become about the internet hype cycle, I walked into that show with the same excitement I felt seeing Alex G for the first time in 2013. Mk.gee’s fantastic 2024 album Two Star & the Dream Police has been in constant rotation for me & apparently every other person I know in Detroit.
Before I get into how the show went, here are a few observations I made:
Mk.gee fans are tall. like the average height of the person at this concert must’ve been 3 inches more than the average Detroit show.
The age range was WIDE. I saw a lot of older folks, a lot of people in their early 20s, and literal babies.
Lots of Hivemind fans so if you saw me there and said hi shout out to you, I hope you enjoyed
As for the concert itself, mk.gee puts on the show you’d expect if you listen to his music - but more importantly, the show you’d WANT. He was mostly a silhouette on stage, yelping between perfect passages of reverb-drenched guitar and soft, passionate singing. Going into the show, I had always compared mk.gee to phil collins & prince; while those comparisons still shine through, I was reminded of The War on Drugs while watching him perform on Wednesday night. You can feel the intention in the experience of a mk.gee show. When you’re there you feel it, you’re a part of the dream.
And now for the question everyone’s asking… he played DNM 5 times.
I don’t have much in terms of criticism for this show, but I think he should play Candy 5 times instead of DNM.
And If you saw me drinking canned chardonnay at the show, no you didn’t.
Go see mk.gee if you can.

RECIPES
White Bean Chicken Chili
I’m back with another Crock recipe that Riley’s mom used to make. This serves a load of people and is perfect for those colder October days. You can do this however you want but this time of year it’s just easy to throw everything in a crock and forget about it.
What you need…
3 cans of great northern beans?
2 cans coconut milk
Big ass jar of green chiles
Jug of chicken broth
Cilantro
Onion
⅘ clove of garlic
Cumin
Chili powder
S&P
I used like 3lbs of chicken thigh (sear prior to pot/crock)
Lime juice
Oregano
Garnish with queso Fresca and fresh Serrano and tortilla
What you’ll do…
Chop the onion and mince the garlic
Drain and rinse the northern beans
Sear your chicken with salt and pep
Fry up your onion and garlic if you’re eating right away otherwise just throw it all in the crock
Add your chicken broth to your pot/crock
Toss in the cumin, chili powder, and oregano
Add your chicken, green chilis, coconut milk, and beans
Stir it up!
Let it sit for a good 4 hours in the crock on high or simmer in your pot for a good 15-20 minutes
Squeeze in your lime juice, add your queso Fresca, Serranos, and tortilla’s
You’ll have chili for daysss.
