Hivemind Times Issue #5

Welcome To The Hivemind Times!

Week 5 has arrived in style. Graydon has returned from a weekend at TIFF, Grant is miserable over soccer, we got a banger of an interview with Will, Riley has cooked up a signature playlist for you fools, and Grant’s just cooking bean dip.

We’ve returned to streaming after our hiatus - we were so busy getting Cheap Seats up and running, and really just trying to get y'all as many videos as we possibly can.

MORE BIG THINGS TO COME!

Keep an eye out for October merch drop and keep reading the newsletter because we love doing it. Thanks and enjoy week 5 of the Hivemind Times.

WEEKLY PLAYLIST

I can’t sleep unless I'm listening to music. This is the actual playlist I play before bed. I think it’s perfect. You can listen to it whenever you want.

Sweet dreams.

MOVIE REVIEW

Graydon went to TIFF

So I tagged along with Eden to the Toronto International Film Festival, a place no one from Swanton has ever been before. We went to more after parties than movies. Also, I think Jude Law likes me.

Anyway, lemme tell you about the new Ron Howard movie Eden. Besides the great title, this movie was kind of hot garbage, outside of an incredibly compelling true story about a German doctor who left society in 1929 to write a new philosophy for mankind.

This movie leaves so much to be desired. Sydney Sweeney just isn’t a good actor and I’m not ready for her to be in 15 movies a year for the next decade. She can't decide between a German accent and a British one, which is funny, but doesnt help pull you into the story. You do get to see Jude Law’s penis and him wearing homemade dentures, which is a little treat.

This thing dragged on and on and wouldn’t be worth the price of admission at an AMC, let alone the $150 festival ticket price. Whatever, it was still fun to see a big time premiere, and someone had a heart attack an hour in and had to be carried out! The after party was full of little snacks and big stars. Meanwhile, I was supremely out of place and drunk.

The next morning we went and saw Beloved Tropic, a touching foreign film about a caretaker faking a pregnancy and befriending an old rich lady who is succumbing to dementia. I really liked this movie from first time feature director Ana Endara Mislov and would recommend it to anyone who needs a good cry. I then quickly ran away to a Browns bar in Toronto called Shox Billiards to watch the boys get dismantled with about 100 other shitty freaks from Ohio. Great bar! Shout out Shox and my guy Gabe the fireman, who I met there. You were awesome.

That night we snuck our way into the Friendship after party in hopes of meeting Tim Robinson only to give Paul Rudd a thumbs up, which he graciously returned the pleasure. The grand finale was the Anora after party, which I really wish we got to see. This party was sexy - Eden got a tooth gem and I drunkenly approached Bill Murray and his date. All in all Toronto is a sick city full of secret Browns fans and film lovers.

10/10 would recommend going.

SPORTS

This has been the worst week of my life.

Arsenal have their sights set on what's always a tricky fixture away to Spurs this Sunday without Mikel Arteta’s ideal starting midfield.

Last time you heard me talk about Arsenal I was buzzing about our new signing of Mikel Merino. Since then, he broke his shoulder in training, Declan received a very controversial red card, and now our captain Martin Odegaard’s ankle did a 720 Tony Hawk would be proud of. On a more positive note, I’m hearing rumors Gabriel Jesus SHOULD be fit, but I don’t expect him to start.

The North London Derby is always going to be a very aggressive game and with our ideal starting midfield sidelined, it poses a huge problem for Arteta to solve. However, we are a very well drilled team, and it’s no excuse to go away to Spurs looking for anything less than 3 points. These lot are our DOGS.

Here’s how I expect Arsenal to line up on Sunday:

Front Line: Trossard, Havertz, Saka

Midfield: Partay, Jorginho, Timber/ Zinchenko (I don’t think Mikel will throw Nwaneri into a NLD Away)

Defense: Calafiori, Gabriel, Saliba, White

GK: Raya

What is great about our signings thus far is that we have a very versatile squad, so a lineup like this would also be welcomed:

Frontline: Martinelli/Sterling, Trossard, Saka

Midfield: Havertz, Partay, Jorginho

Defense: Timber, Gabriel, Saliba, White

GK: Mike Wazowski

Both squads have more than enough to take 3 points and MOVE. It will be a tough 2 months whilst our star midfield players come back into the team - it’s time to dig deep.

I’m not gonna lie, I was expecting this blurb to be more depressing than it actually ended up being, so that’s cool.

RECIPES

Listen up freaks, I know the last recipe I gave you took hours and hours but this one is an absolutely perfect party appetizer and will take no time at all. I call it the “Smack Me Silly” - it’s basically a bean dip but it actually goes so hard.

What you need…

For the dip:

1 can white shoepeg corn (rinsed, drained) **or use frozen white corn, no need to cook.
1 can pinto beans (rinsed, drained)
1 can black-eyed peas (rinsed, drained)**I always add a can of black beans as well.
1 jar pimentos (chopped, drained** chop 1 large, jarred roasted red pepper.
1/2 green pepper (chopped)
1/2 red onion (chopped)

For the dressing:

1/4 cup olive oil
1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
1 cup sugar (I use a little less or you can use Splenda)** use slightly less than 1/2 cup

What you’ll do…

Combine the first six ingredients in a bowl. In a sexy hot pan heat the sugar, olive oil and vinegar. Boil and stir until sugar is dissolved. Set aside and cool that shit off. Add dressing to other ingredients and marinate in the refrigerator for one hour. *Tastes best if you let it marinate all night and drain well*

USE PRETZEL CHIPS AND SCOOP!!!!! Yeah it’s delicious - I know you like it.
