ALBUM RECS
New Punch Out Album: Constant Agony
Hey y'all!
My name is Paul and I’m the vocalist in a band called Punch Out. We’re a hardcore band from Detroit, MI. If you’re into bands like The Ghost Inside, The Acacia Strain, Expire, Backtrack, etc then you may like us. We released our debut album Constant Agony last Friday June 20th.
We went through hell and back to write and record this album. The death of our bass player, multiple member changes, many arguments on creative directions and so on. We poured our heart and soul into this and it is something we will be proud of for the rest of our lives. I have the link to the album below. Listen to it on any streaming platform and I hope you enjoy it!
Below is a review we received for our album:
“The gloves are off and the new record from Punch-Out has hit! From its opening moments this album is the sonic equivalent of two guys meeting in the park wearing boxing gloves ready to turn the other guy black and blue. Crushing riffery & tough vocals reminiscent of Tom Cruise laden album “Cover Your Tracks”. For fans of the recent renaissance of hardcore and slam I highly recommend this new brutal offering from Punch Out.”

NBA draft and offseason

Chat these guys moving or what?
So this NBA offseason was promised to be absolute chaos and it hasn’t totally disappointed but some of the big dogs we expected to move are still at their homes. The draft has come and gone without much drama or surprise picks. The biggest shocker to me thus far is that the Boston Celtics have really changed course post Jayson Tatum injury and are completely tanking, or maybe just retooling I can’t tell yet. Pending a Jaylon Brown move they have basically just cleared a shit ton of cap and acquired their new franchise center piece, Georges Niang.
The Pelicans sent CJ McCollum to die in Washington while snagging Jordan Poole. On the surface this seems like a lateral move but I think this actually does make the Pels a little better for some reason.
The Houston Rockets make the splash move by shipping Dillon Brooks and Jalen Green to Phoenix for the elderly Kevin Durant. I thought they’d be able to pull this off without Jalen being involved but either way I think it’s the rare win win trade.
![]() | Houston narrows their championship window to however many KD can give them but he is exactly what they were lacking come playoff time, which is a closer and someone who can just get a bucket when they need it. |
Phoenix didn’t/hasn’t stopped there: they also snagged the elusive Mark Williams who the Lakers tried to get earlier last year to pair with Luka. Mark is a massive long young center who is a revolving door on defense but can finish around the rim like pretty much only a few guys can in the league. Despite his trouble staying healthy, I like it.
Now my favorite move probably so far is the Orlando Magic getting Desmond Bane out of Memphis. I feel like this is going to be the most slept on difference maker of the offseason. Orlando needed shooting like I need a cold beer on a Friday night. People are saying and are gonna continue to say they gave up too much but KCP was a disaster and Cole Anthony didn’t have much of a place on that roster. Most importantly, with the East being flung wide open by the achilles epidemic of 2025, who’s to say the Magic couldn’t make a ECF push or rather be the Pacers of next year.
Lastly the great Cleveland Cavaliers have been standing pat with the roster that led them to the best record in the east last year. They have some interesting decisions coming down the pipeline in terms of retaining guys like Sam Money Merril and Ty the Guy Jerome but if all goes well, IMO they hit the court with the same roster they did last year.
The Pistons keep getting mentioned in about every big name trade possible but seem very tentative to separate their young core that gave the city hope this year. And I think that’s the right move.

????????
I’ll be staying tuned to see if Kawhi Leanord gets shipped out of LA and if the C’s actually pull the trigger on Jaylen Brown. The offseason can truly be more fun than the regular season sometimes and I am eagerly refreshing NBA reddit.
Anyway congrats to OKC we love a small market champ. But go Cavs - we gottem next year!

RAY’S FISH ARTICLE
Hex Camp
Michigan summer. If you have never experienced it, you need to. Summertime for me means a lot of time spent in Northern Michigan and usually a lot of that time I am fly fishing.
(For those unaware, fly fishing is a type of fishing that uses a specialized type of rod/reel where you are relying on the weight of your line to cast. Usually on rivers/creeks often using little “flies” that are to mimic bugs that are actually hatching where you are fishing. Like with all fishing, just trying to trick the fish to believe that this little bug you are floating on the stream is a real meal for them.)
The state of Michigan has a lot of roots in the sport of fly fishing. Trout Unlimited was formed in Grayling, home of the Au Sable River, in 1959. It is a national non-profit organization focused on conserving, protecting, and restoring North America's coldwater fisheries.
Trout fishing for me is an adventure. The feeling of wading, or floating, down a stream in the middle of nowhere and catching a wild trout on the fly is something that is hard to paint with words. Now imagine it at night…
End of June. Hexagenia limbata. The Hex Hatch. Insanity.
This giant mayfly hatch occurs at night. On a good night you will see a biomass of bugs that is nothing like you have ever seen before. Turn on your headlamp and you are guaranteed to swallow at least one. However, this is where the big brown trout come out to feast. I am not lying when I say that when some of these trout surface to eat it sounds like a bowling ball crashing into the water. Pete Weber type shit. |
Every year my buddy Max and I like to get together for what we call “hex camp”. A tradition that involves many days of getting to the river at dusk, staying up all night chasing the bugs, cigars to keep the mosquitoes away, bourbon, and very little sleep.
Anyone you talk to the next day is recounting their stories of the night before. The classic fisherman’s tale. Along the way you often meet some crazy characters. Like the guy who is always going around in his truck selling flies he tied by river access points … but only in groups of 12. No splits. The bug is the drug and the people love it.
Stand on the banks, migrate into the river, and just wait for go-time. Bugs appear, fish start rising, and you start casting. Casting into the dark abyss just hoping your fly goes right over that fish's head. If it decides to eat yours amongst all the real bugs, hang on. When it happens, the adrenaline of fighting a fish of this size in the middle of the night is unmatched.
Here are some photos from Hex Camp 2025.
Cheers.
