WEEKLY PLAYLIST

Brat is one of our favorite albums of the year. From front to back Charli xcx explores so much sonically that when you peel back the layers of electric and dance pop, you can’t help but nod your head and just want to dance. Charli takes us through somewhat of a musical journal, tapping references of past Charli xcx, while continuously reminding us that this is in fact an album you should dance to.

If you’re like us and you can’t get enough of Brat, check out the playlist below.

MOVIE REVIEW

Long Legs (3.5/5)

So I finally got out to see what was probably the most hyped horror movie since Hereditary. Up until this point, reviews of Long Legs from my friends, and other people whose opinions I occasionally respect, were pretty polarized.  It was either the scariest thing of all time or laughable. After really falling in the love with the advertisements and trailers, I wanted this to be our generation's Silence of the Lambs so bad. Sadly it was not.

It was in many ways a classic detective murder mystery that had enough new spins on old tropes to keep you intrigued.  But the overall timing of the reveal, or unravel for that matter, felt awkward and forced, basically having to hand feed us the twist in the last 20 minutes. I promise I’m not ruining anything for you!!

Nick Cage was spooky as fuck though, and I can always get down with the devil.  Osgood Perkins packs in some pretty awesome shots too. There’s enough here to make it a “good” movie but overall it lacks the cascade-like momentum of other past great thriller/horror films like Seven or the aforementioned Silence of The Lambs.

But if you were looking for a decent thriller that awakens your heebie jeebies then you’ll get a bit of that in this movie.

ALBUM RECS

If you Google Judee Sill you’ll soon realize how impactful her music was many years after her untimely death in 1979. Although only releasing two albums, her self-titled debut album below remains a cult classic. Names like Lin-Manuel Miranda, Hayley Williams (Paramore), and Elliot Smith have all been linked to inspiration and praise from her music. Enjoy!

TV SHOW REVIEW

House of the Dragon Season 2 Finale

(SPOILER ALERT) Season 2 House of Dialogue finale DELIVERED!!!!

Rhaenyra + Alicent alliance!?

Daemon, good obedient boy?!

This season felt like a long game of chess, and if season 3 is done correctly, it could be an all-timer season of television. We’re talking like prime Breaking Bad kind of television. It’s rare we have a season finale in Westeros without bloodshed, but this time around, I actually thought it was excellent.

We are here, staring over the abyss of souls yet to be claimed. Ships are sailing, dragons are purring, and war is sneering.

Grant’s HOTD Predictions:

  1. Bastard dragon rider (the loud mouth one) is gonna fuck up bad or switch sides

  2. When Alicent tries to flee King's Landing she gets caught and they are able to prepare for Rhaenyra

  3. Aemond kills Daemon

RECIPES

To whom it may concern,

It has been the summer of the Spaghett (not a typo) for little old me. This nasty sucker is the Aperol Spritz for dirtbags and dive bars. Not to be confused with Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives.

What you need…

  1. A bottle of Miller High Life

  2. 1.5oz of Aperol

  3. A good ol fashioned lemon wedge

What you’ll do…

Just empty out a shot of High Life, aka drink a bit of the beer first.

Refill what you just drank with a shot of Aperol.

Squeeze in a bit of lemon juice and you now have something special. A trip to flavor town if you will.
